2020 Field Day

Posted for Andy, N7SGV

This crazy year, with COVID concerns, threatened to scuttle our plans for Field Day 2020. The American Radio Relay League adapted the rules for club members to work from different locations, and scoring had to change a well. But as the date drew near at the end of June, we were able to gather, with safety precautions, with the help of a great many people and agencies supporting our efforts.

Field Day 2020 was held at the Harbor Fire and Rescue Fire Station, in the parking lot. We started setting up all the Comm Trailers, Equipment , Antennas, Emergency Power, etc at 6am on Saturday June 27th . We started Communicating at 11 am . This year, we set up our PBARC Information Booth / Community Outreach display at the event . We hoped to demonstrate to the Public how we can still do Emergency Communications work with out Primary Power and show we have many Radio Frequencies, Repeater’s, etc. available. We operated on Batteries, Generators and used Solar Power. We planned to operate an all Nighter, but weather chased a few of us into campers overnight. In the morning, we found that the winds had already started to take down our antennas a bit early! Our event was scheduled to end at 2 pm Sunday the 28th.  (Field Day is World Wide event, and the time window is a bit wider, to allow other countries to operate much of the time in their daylight hours.)

I want to send out a Special Thank You to all that support our mission with Emergency Communications and Day To Day Communications. When all else fails. Ham Radio Works !
