PBARC 2020-2021 Year In Review

Submitted by Lynn, KN7TAZ, and delivered to the attendees at the annual meeting

  1. Spring SET (Simulated Emergency Test) We had a great showing, with approximately 18 operators from the Brookings area.
  2. Azalea Festival Parade  We had 15 operators patriating.  Thank you Stu, KE6NCU for all the hard work being the liaison  for PBARC and the Festival Board.  From what I can tell this was the 41st  year that PBARC has worked with the Parade.
  3. Red Cross Activation Exercise  We had 5 operators participate in passing traffic from Del Norte County to Curry County, and then passing traffic to Sacramento.  Red Cross folks were very impressed.
  4. We had the pleasure of being included in the celebration of the 90th Birthday for Virgil, W7VEC.
  5. Field Day  We had 7 stations set up for Field day this year.  We had a great focuses on community outreach.
  6. We assisted Del Norte with the Crescent City 4th of July Parade.  We had 7 operators that participated in the Parade. (Many of the active Hams in Crescent City were on floats this year, so they couldn’t staff positions along the route.)
  7. Art in the Park We had 15 members participate over the three days of the First Art in the Park at Azalea Park.  We had a great focuses on community outreach.  We have ran out of outreach material and I have to ordered more.
  8. Fall SET (Simulated Emergency Test) We had 14 operators from the Brookings area participate,  We met all the goals which were asked ask of us.  PBARC had more members and other operators participate than the rest of Curry County combined.
  9. We have the Crown Terrace 146.840 repeater on-line (- offset, PL 88.5).  This has been a very long and difficult project to accomplish.  If it was not for the generosity of the Members of PBARC this would not have been possible.  There have been tremendous amounts of donations of Money, Material, Equipment, Time and Skills.  This has been a great learning opportunity for so many of our Members.  This is a monument that PBARC can and should be proud of.
  10. We have continually run the PBARC Health and Welfare net daily at noon. In the last 20 months, we have only missed two days of this net. One day when we had a repeater issue, and one day when we were all working on the repeater and lost track of time. On October 1st, we moved that net to the new Crown Terrace Repeater.  In the last year, on this net alone, we have had over 3,500 check ins.  This would not be possible without our outstanding Net Control Operators.  Thank you to all our Net Control Operators, and to Stu, KE6NCU for taking on the Net Manager tasks.
  11. In January we started a weekly 10M net every Sunday evening.  Through this we have helped encourage members to upgrade.

We have had two of our member upgrade to Extra, Congratulations to Sam, KJ7RRV, and to Stu, KE6NCU.

We have had one member upgrade to General,  Congratulations to Larry, KF6KAH.

We have brought in four new Technician licensees; KJ7WLM, Chad; KR7RED, Rachel; KJ7SUZ, Scott; KG7OVT, Josh.  At this time PBARC has 47 members.

We would like to thank Jim, K6JR for bringing his DMR repeater online and offering its use to all of us.   Christie Lynn, WA6ZDO has also donated a ALLSTAR Node for us to use as well as the IRLP node that she has at her place.

We broke ground on the repeater site on September 5th 2020, and the repeater was put on full  operation on September 18th, 2021.  We still need to do some improvements on the site.  We need to equip the site with backup power of some type.   The site is set and ready to accept UHF links to the North and South when the time is right.  To do this we would need the UHF radios, and associated power supply.

There is still more to do!! none of this would not be possible with out you!
