Friday Morning Coffee

Beach Front Bistro has reopened, after having been closed for a time due to COVID-19. Our social meeting is every Friday starting at 8:30, at 16011 Boat Basin Road.

Even though Curry County is starting to reopen, we are still having a Health and Welfare net starting at noontime, every day, on the repeater. It is a quick net, just to ask if anyone in our community needs any help with anything, and a chance to hear some friendly voices.

Are You Prepared

Did you get new gear for your home, car, or for your Grab-and-Go kit?
Make a list of the things that you still want

Pelican Bay Amateur Radio Club is installing antennas, and some radios, at key locations. While we’ll have operating positions ready use, each of us needs to prepare ourselves to be ready to operate there. If something is broken, or you just cannot program it, you may still be able to connect your own gear to get on the air (providing you have the needed coax adapter(s) in your kit).  Even if you plan to participate from your home, or your car, what would make your operating position better, or last longer on the air?

Please visit some of these emergency operating locations, and familiarize yourself with the gear that is there. In an emergency, luck favors the prepared!

Helping each other around the Pelican Bay

Our Ham Radio Club covers from Del Norte County, CA, up the coast through Curry County, OR. There are established Local clubs in Crescent City, Brookings/Harbor, Gold Beach and Port Orford.

Next Steps…

We live on a frontier, and life is better when we are helping each other, and watching out for each other. That’s why we are organizing the Curry Amateur Radio Emergency Services Team (CARES Team), to help train each other while we strive to prepare for coming emergencies and crises.

Our mission is developing, and we are talking with our local agencies to determine how we can help, and how they can engage us. We may need to take certain training (for example, basic Incident Command System (ICS) classes and certification).

Please consider whether you can become a member of CARES Team, and contact Andy N7SGV (president@pelicanbayarc.com)
