Why a “new” website”? The short answer is that we needed to keep updating our software to keep the website safe. But we’d come to the end of what we could do on a “product” that was old in 2014, when the website was first created. We needed to change many things, in order to get back into a secure posture for the server.
During the migration, we found a couple things which complicated the move. Chief among these being that we couldn’t move the photos installed in the Gallery from 2017-2019. I’m hoping people still have some of those on their cameras or computers, so we can rebuild the galleries. I’ll also need some help from long-time members of the club, who can look at the pictures we have, tell us who is in them, and which events they are. Some of them have dats, but many are lacking even basic information. If you think you can help, please email webmaster at pelicanbayarc.com to let me know, and we’ll work out a plan.
I’m also trying to update some of the older pages. If you spot any typo’s, or you think a page needs a correction, please let me know about that as well.
The important thing to know is that the website is now stable into early 2022, unless the board chooses to extend it. I also learned a lot during this migration, so we’ll do things that will make any future migration less work, and more likely to be able to export all our images and files when the time comes.
